Welcome to Bayou Quilt Co. — I’m Donnette. Quilting has been part of my life since I was a little girl, sitting at my great-grandmother Laura Claborn’s feet while she quilted on her wooden frame. I’d play with the empty wooden spools she kept in an old white bucket, while the quilt above me came together stitch by stitch.

I didn’t know it then, but I was learning something I’ve never stopped believing — that fabric holds memory, that a quilt is worth taking your time over, and that the best ones carry a little of the maker inside them. That love of fabric, tradition, and the stories we stitch into every quilt is why I started this shop.

With more than thirty years of quilting behind me, I buy for Bayou Quilt Co. the way I shop for myself. Every fabric, kit, pattern, and notion here earned its place because I’d use it — and most of them, I already have. If a print doesn’t excite me, it doesn’t make the shelf.

I also do the longarm quilting myself. I work with each customer to choose a design and thread that complement the piecing rather than overpower it, and every top that comes through the studio gets the same care my great-grandmother gave hers — whether it’s a first baby quilt or an heirloom that’s been waiting years for its turn.

But the fabric is only half of it. I love helping you choose prints that complement each other rather than compete, and I’m always glad to be your sounding board through those “I’m just not sure” moments — a phone call, an email, a message, whichever is easiest. There are no quilt police here, and no such thing as a silly question. I’m your encourager, your advisor when you need one, and your biggest cheerleader along the way.

Whether you’re piecing your first block or your hundredth, my goal is simple: to make choosing your fabric, making your quilt, and every part of the experience feel personal, inspiring, and — most of all — fun. I’m so glad you found us.
